Tired, achy feet? You need a Thai foot massage! Did you know a quarter of your body’s bones are in your feet? A normal foot has an incredible 33 joints, 26 bones, 19 muscles, and 107 ligaments! The soles of your feet have the toughest skin in the body but also one of the most sensitive. With over 7,000 nerve endings your feet are super sensitive and responsive. Your feet give you stability and balance, grip and strength to walk and run. They also give you great shock absorption so that the rest of your body is not jarred as you move.
Apparently a person weighs more when walking than they do when standing. This is because of the push energy needed to get you moving, which adds about 30 per cent to your standing weight (a slightly depressing thought considering we stand still on the scales!). An average day of walking brings a force equal to several hundred tonnes to bear on the feet. Feet really are amazing!
What is Thai Foot massage?
Thai foot massage is an invigorating and stimulating treatment for the feet and lower legs. It is a blend of traditional Thai massage and the ancient art of reflexology, developed by Thai masseurs in the 1990’s. Unlike reflexology, Thai foot massage is not diagnostic. In every treatment we work all the reflex zones, as well as stimulating energy flow and joint mobility by using Thai massage techniques. This creates a blissful one hour Thai foot massage experience that will leave your feet feeling amazing!
Benefits of Thai Foot Massage
One of the principles of Thai foot massage is that the body’s organs are represented in particular parts of the foot. When pressing these points in the foot, the body part is stimulated for healing and balance. Particular benefits include;
- Improved circulation in feet and legs
- Stimulates lymphatic drainage – removing toxins and boosting immunity
- Improves flexibility of feet and ankles, helping to relieve stiffness and discomfort caused by it
- Combats stress and stress related disorders
- Helps with insomnia
- Stimulates function of all internal organs
- Aids elimination
- Greatly helps many common ailments such as headaches, asthma, migraine, sinusitis, pre-menstrual syndrome
Safe During Pregnancy & New Motherhood
Many people worry about massaging the feet during pregnancy. With our specialist massage therapists, you know you’re in safe hands. Mumanu massage therapists are advanced specialists in pregnancy and postnatal massage. We have a deep understanding of the maternity period and have specific training and knowledge of what is safe to do to a pregnant or postnatal woman and what is not. Our Thai foot massage training incorporated safe techniques for the maternity period and we have developed it further to give you the most comfortable, safe and effective Thai foot massage. We are safe to massage you from 0-43 weeks even if your pregnancy is considered high risk or complicated. Don’t worry, we won’t start your labour, although it can help it along if your body is ready. If birth was induced simply by touching points in the feet there would be no need for medical inductions and we’d be rich!
We will position you correctly while you’re pregnant so as to make yourself and your baby safe and comfortable, either sitting or lying down. We often share really useful information with our clients during the consultation. We can teach you how to get comfortable when sitting or lying in general, to maximise baby’s space for optimum positioning (helping to make your birth easier and shorter).
If you’re a new mum and need to look after your baby through the appointment, we can have you seated or side-lying so you can hold and feed your baby comfortably. It takes time for the body to adjust from pregnancy and so many of the risk factors of massage are the same for new mums as they are during pregnancy. Having your Thai foot massage with our Mumanu massage therapists will ensure you’re getting the safest and most comfortable treatment.
What to Expect During Your Thai Foot Massage Experience
Incorporating techniques from both traditions, your Mumanu Thai foot massage experience is a mixture of relaxation and invigoration. We will come to you to give you a blissful Thai foot massage in the comfort of your own home. We massage women and their partners in parts of London and Surrey. *Please be aware we only massage men by referral of our clients.*
You’re welcome to choose to lie down on our massage table or we can massage you sitting in a chair with your legs supported (we bring the foot stool or massage table). You’re welcome to choose the pressure you want. Thai foot massage can be painful at times but we can adjust the pressure for your comfort. You must let us know if you want the pressure changed at any point. We don’t normally talk during your massage, this is your time to relax, but you’re welcome to if you like. We will bring music, massage balm as well as towels and blankets. We have an amazing Mumanu Organic Fairtrade Spearmint Foot Balm we use to make your feet feel tingly and fresh.
Massaging the feet and half way up the legs with the hands as well as using a stick for extra accuracy and pressure, your Mumanu Thai foot massage can be preformed slowly or quickly depending on whether you would like deep relaxation or to feel energised.
Times When We Cannot Treat You
Please let us know if you have any cuts or foot infections. We cannot massage you if you are contagious. If you have athlete’s foot we may still be able to massage you if you put plasters over the infected area(s). If you have sprained you ankle or broken any bones in your feet or legs, obviously you will not want to receive a Thai foot massage. If you have booked for a Thai foot massage but cannot receive it due to infection or injury, we are happy to offer you a body massage instead. See our list of massages for other options.
Time has been specifically reserved with your therapist for your massage treatment. Please give us at least 24 hours notice of a cancellation. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will incur a fee of 50% of the treatment charge. Cancellations with less than four hours notice will incur a charge of 100% of the treatment charge. This is in consideration of your therapists time and other clients who may be waiting for an appointment. If you are in labour or have given birth within the last 48 hours we will not charge you a fee. Thank you.
